Thirsty for justice

MANILA, Philippines – An unidentified body of a woman was found by residents dumped in a canal in Barangay Putho Tuntungin, Los Baños, Laguna Tuesday morning.

Authorities believe the woman was a victim of a summary execution.

Superintendent Dante Novicio said the body was found at around 6:30 a.m. near the compound of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

Police said the victim had a bullet wound on her forehead and bruises all over her body.

Both her hands were tied and masking tape covered her mouth.

The victim also did not have any underwear, leading police to suspect that she was raped before she was killed.

The victim, believed to be 18 to 25 years old, was light-skinned, medium built and had long hair.

She was wearing a pink T-shirt and a pair of denim shorts.

Officials of the Scene of Crime Operatives (SOCO) continue to conduct an investigation and autopsy at the Surbano Funeral Parlor.

The corpse found was Given Grace', a fellow UPLB student. She is taking BS Computer Science. Most likely, she is graduating in less than two years and it makes me feel more regretful. A promising future awaits her but it was ended by those merciless, lustful men. I am expressing my deepest sympathy to the family and love ones of Given. I know it was very dreadful and inhuman but all we can do now is pray for her soul rest in peace.

This tragedy serves as an alarm to all women to triple their caution when walking on streets alone especially during the night and dusk. I am certain that those animals who'd done the crime will continue to look for innocent girls to prey on. Don't be the next victim! If you are ill at ease, take necessary actions directly because you might not know danger is just few steps away from you. Remember, life is too short. We can only live once.
